The Pengilly Booster Club is a volunteer organization that owns and operates the Pengilly Community Center. The sole purpose of the club is to provide a place for local groups to meet free of charge. Organizations that use the center include Senior Citizens, VFW Post 8831, Red Rock ATV Riders, TOPS, ElderCircle Bone Builders, and various card-playing and coffee groups. The Booster Club also maintains a free library in the center, provides a space for handicapped children to exercise, and a crafters’ room. Local voting machines and booths are stored here as well. Nearly 200 people each week use this center. The Nashwauk Area Community Fund’s grant to the Pengilly Booster Club was used for exterior maintenance of the Community Center.

The Neighbors HELPING Neighbors Food Shelf is a local not-for-profit organization, a collaborative effort by local civic and faith-based community leaders, providing food assistance to those in need. In 2015 there were 1,077 food shelf visits by residents of Nashwauk, Keewatin and Calumet, with over 53,745 pounds of food distributed. Clients were children, adults and seniors from 194 different households, some in crisis situations. The Food Shelf fund raising efforts have allowed the organization to provide special holiday foods and deliver food boxes to those without transportation. The 2015 Nashwauk Area Community Fund’s grant to the Food Shelf helped to purchase storage freezers for perishable food items. On-going grants are used to purchase and restock grocery items.
