Itasca County Habitat for Humanity's (ICHFH) mission is to build community relationships to provide affordable housing for those in need. Its vision is to reduce the number of families living in substandard housing in Itasca County by providing opportunities and resources for successful home ownership. Their focus on both homeownership and home preservation demonstrates a comprehensive approach to supporting homeownership while addressing housing needs in the community. The Home Preservation Program, a crucial component of ICHFH's mission, provides repairs and improvements to existing homes. This helps homeowners that are low income (under 60% of the area median income) maintain their properties, reduce financial burdens, and enhance their overall quality of life.

The Home Preservation Program provides vital exterior repairs to homeowner-occupied homes throughout Itasca County, including the areas of focus for the Nashwauk Community Fund. Volunteers from Habitat for Humanity offer their time and expertise to complete projects such as repairing sidewalks, building ramps, painting, staining, trimming trees, or replacing windows. To make these repairs more accessible, we offer zero-interest loans for necessary materials, allowing families to maintain their homes without undue financial burden. The grant of $2,000 will increase the number of homes ICHFH assists during the annual Day of Action event, scheduled for June 13, 2025 in Nashwauk. This collaborative effort with the United Way of Northeast Minnesota, Community Economic Development Associates, Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency's Youthbuild Program, and the city involves upwards of 200 volunteers from across Itasca County, working together to revitalize homes and improve the overall appearance of the community.
